The U.S. response to COVID-19 and the future of healthcare and public health careers
During the prolonged crisis that is COVID-19, essential healthcare workers have had to hold steadfast, unwavering despite pervasive uncertainty. Essential workers in healthcare have been called to care for those who are suffering or at risk, to tend to the needs of others with compassion, and hope. But what about the needs and mental health of those healthcare workers?
In this fifth installment of our virtual series, °®½´ÊÓƵ College will explore the multifaceted roles that essential workers in healthcare have played throughout the response to COVID-19, acknowledging the complexities of the social responsibility many feel bound by, as well as the possible physical and mental costs of the work. Together we will consider the unique challenges posed by COVID-19 on systems of care and the potential dangers of regarding essential workers in healthcare as heroes. In addition, we will discuss ways of supporting essential workers in healthcare in light of the logistical and emotional challenges of caregiving during this time.
