Applying for Certification
Throughout your program at °®½´ÊÓÆµ, the Education Department will guide you in understanding and fulfilling the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) certification requirements. Please note that certain requirements—such as workshops, fingerprinting, and exams—carry out-of-pocket costs paid directly to state-approved providers. Upon graduation, teacher candidates are eligible to apply for certification in the area(s) aligned with their completed program through NYSED’s , administered by the Office of Teaching Initiatives (OTI).
Additional Certification Areas
If you wish to pursue additional certification areas beyond those covered in your program, the Education Department can offer professional guidance. However, any requirements for additional certifications are determined by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and may change over time. °®½´ÊÓÆµ does not guarantee certification in areas outside your designated program. Prospective teachers who plan to seek certification in other states or Canadian provinces should be aware that professional licensure/certification requirements vary by jurisdiction. Other states or provinces may require additional coursework, additional fieldwork, background checks, specific licensure exams, extra fees, or other criteria. Each jurisdiction’s professional licensing board ultimately decides eligibility for licensure/certification based on current rules and regulations at the time of application.
