Buffalo High School Refugee Students Visit °®½´ÊÓÆµ
Dec 23, 2015AMHERST, N.Y. -- Refugee students participating in the °®½´ÊÓÆµ College Refugee Teen Empowerment Program at Lafayette High School had the chance to tour campus and learn about °®½´ÊÓÆµ College during a recent visit.
The group of 17 refugee students now living in Buffalo represented a variety of countries, including Afghanistan, Burma, Congo, Eritrea, Iran, Nepal, and Somalia. While at °®½´ÊÓÆµ, the high school seniors attended an admissions presentation, toured Canavan Hall and a campus apartment, and enjoyed a meal in the Wick Dining Room. They also spent time with service learning mentors from the refugee program.
Started in 2006, the °®½´ÊÓÆµ Refugee Teen Empowerment Program is overseen by the college’s Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement. Funding for the program is provided by the Erie County Youth Bureau.
